    About CNT

CNT’s Medical Director, Indra Cidambi, M.D founded CNT to make addiction treatment more accessible and effective, and stop the revolving addiction treatment door. To that end she moved the most acute levels of care, drug and alcohol detox, to an outpatient setting, making addiction treatment congruent with the “disease model.” She pioneered the Outpatient, or Ambulatory Detoxification and Outpatient Withdrawal Management model for all substances: alcohol withdrawal, anesthetics, benzodiazepine withdrawal, and opiates. This cutting-edge addiction treatment model delivers better outcomes and also reduces stigma associated with addiction.

Inpatient detoxification and withdrawal management was the sole option for individuals afflicted by addiction until a few years back, but the inpatient model delivered less than optimal results; it did not integrate patient’s living environment into treatment and skills learnt in treatment had no connection to the patient’s real life. Consequently, patients often relapsed after returning home, as they were unable to adapt relapse prevention techniques to real life situations, causing them to access drug and alcohol treatments multiple times a year. This created a revolving addiction treatment door.

Addiction is a chronic disease, and not a behavioral issue, as viewed by inpatient programs. Treatment for other chronic diseases such as diabetes, HIV or hypertension, is almost always provided in an outpatient setting. However, acute-phase addiction treatment, or alcohol and drug detoxification, has largely been stuck in the outmoded inpatient model. Not only is efficacy of the inpatient model less than optimal, it also increases stigma around the disease of addiction as patients are forced to give up their role in the family and community to go away for treatment. Dr. Cidambi moved all levels of addiction treatment to the de-stigmatizing “disease model” by innovating to Ambulatory Detoxification and Outpatient Withdrawal Management for the management of alcohol withdrawal, anesthetic withdrawal, benzo withdrawal and opiate withdrawal. She also instituted protocols for Methadone detox, Suboxone detox, Subutex detox and buprenorphine detox in order to help individuals wanting to come off of maintenance doses succeed.

Contemporary outpatient detoxification and withdrawal management model allows the integration of the home environment at the beginning of treatment itself. When Relapse Prevention or Coping skills learnt in treatment do not work well at home, patients comes back to treatment the next day and work with their therapist to make the necessary adjustments. Only outpatient detoxification and withdrawal management allow patients to gain the critical ability to seamlessly integrate relapse prevention techniques into their daily life from the get go.

CNT has demonstrated that Ambulatory, or outpatient drug and alcohol detoxification delivers better outcomes relative to inpatient treatment. A study by CNT showed that 90+ day sobriety rates post Ambulatory Detoxification were far higher relative to inpatient detoxification.

By offering all levels of care – including, Detoxification and Withdrawal Management – on an outpatient basis, our rehab clinic helps individuals constrained by home or work responsibilities to also access drug and alcohol detoxification. This is especially helpful to professionals and home makers. High functioning individuals may have work responsibilities that need to be fulfilled daily and stay-home moms may need to continue to function as the logistical hub of the family. Such individuals may not have the luxury of going away for treatment far from their homes.
